Men-Do you feel like a victim of society?
At a young age you are seperated from the nurturing aspect of childhood and thrust into the quest for proving your manhood. You are seperated from your mother more so than girls b/c you are encouraged not to be a mama's boy-suddenly displays of emotion are discouraged, crying is frowned upon. You are instructed on how to dress, what toys are suitable for your sex-Girls can wear pants if they choose, be tomboys, play with GI Joes yet boys must wear masculine clothing of appropriate color and cut, cannot engage in "feminine" games or past-times w/out ridicule or questioning of sexuality, cannot play dress up or with dolls. You are forced to feel "gay" or inadequate in one way or another if you do not follow the guidelines of being a male member of society. Does this ring a bell w/any guys out there?
No.
You can only be a victim if this is the role you choose to fulfill. Deciding you are in control of your own destiny is the first step to leading a productive and rewarding life.
Goth clothing - Industrial culture
Gothic fashion is a clothing style worn by members of the Goth subculture ; a dark, often doleful, eroticized fashion and style of dress. Characteristic Gothic fashion includes black dyed and crimped hair and black clothes. Both masculine and feminine goths infrequently wear dark eyeliner and dark fingernails. Some haute couture designers, particularly Alexander McQueen and John Galliano, have been associated with the goth aesthetic.
Cintra Wilson declares that "The origins of recent goth style are found in the Victorian cult of mourning." Valerie Steele is knowledgeable in the history of the style.
Punk fashion is the styles of clothing, hairstyles, cosmetics, jewelry, and body modifications of the punk subculture. Punk fashion varies widely from Vivienne Westwood styles to styles modeled on bands like The Exploited. Punk fashion has similarly influenced the styles of these groups, as well as those of popular culture. Punks use clothing as a way of making a statement.
Other items in early UK punk fashion included: Anarchy symbols; brightly-colored or white and black dress shirts at random covered in slogans (such as "Only Anarchists are pretty"); fake blood ; patches ; and deliberately questionable pictures ( like portraits of Marx, Stalin and Mussolini) were popular . Leather rocker jackets and customised blazers were early, and remain a common fixture of punk fashion.
Punk fashion has been very commercialised at numerous times, and many well-established fashion designers - like Vivienne Westwood and Jean Paul Gaultier - have used punk elements in their production. Punk clothing, which was at first home made, became mass produced and sold in record stores and some smaller specialty clothing stores by the 1980's.
