Mannequin band

Mannequin, as a band, attempts to deliver to the people the fact that heavy music never necessarily refers to any of the “noise” that people have come to hate as of now. In the few fresh months that the band has been in existence, they have already made significant progress in terms of musical unity and musical flair. Sporting various genres of music under their sleeves (particularly the genres of Emo and Hardcore mixed with a flair of mushy tunes), Mannequin attempts to deliver raw and undaunted music to all, standing tall in the face of competition and with the fuel for passion burning in their hearts. The band within itself, attempts to show to the people, that music is something that is enjoyed, be it heavy metal, or love songs to say the least. Mannequin sets out to be something different, to discover and tap into the vast potentials that each one has, and utilize them for their own enjoyment and the enjoyment of others. The band is still fresh, with a lot more to improve and a longer way to go.

The meeting of the members of Mannequin was no ordinary one. During the first semester of the academic year 2006 - 2007 at De La Salle University - Dasmariñas, Bryan (drummer), Robert (Vocalist), Jamil (Vocalist), Dominic (Bassist) and Edward (Guitarist) had similar tastes music and started out a band, doing covers of local bands like Kamikazee, Sandwich et all. But then due to interpersonal problems within the band, the band lost track and therefore were not able to completely hold on to the commitment. During the second semester of the academic year, the band met Mark in their NSTP class, who soon filled up the position as lead guitarist for the band. Rekindled with a new hope for the band, the members set out and practiced regularly at a local rehearsal studio and soon were able to perform for inter-school events.

The band’s name had been influenced by a lot of tough-decision making on the part of the members. Names like CheezeCorn and Drawn were all in the making until the band decided on the name “Mannequin“, which in a rough way represents the band, open for criticisms and improvements, a clean slate.

TIMELINE

August to October 2006 - the band starts off primarily with Bryan, Robert, Edward, Dominic and Jamil. Starts to cover select songs.

November 2006 - The former band meets Mark and so set out to complete the band. Name of band still unknown at this point. Have funded two covers, Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” and PnE’s “Ordertaker”.

December 2006 - The band parts ways for the Christmas and New Year vacation.

January 2007 - The band finalizes the name in lieu with KTS Auditions. Mannequin is born. Auditions for KTS. Does not get into line-up due to excessive amount of bands.

January 2007 - The band participates in Bandalism Battle of the Bands is Calubcob, Silang, Cavite.

January 2007 - Drummer Bryan shares new material with the band. Rehearses and nails it in one session. New composition “Kulang” is born. Development of “Macho Gwapitos” is under way.

February 2007 - The band covers Freddie Aguilar’s “Anak”, delving more into the metal genre. The band will attempt was scheduled to play on the 14th of February, however they were not able to because of arrangement constraints. It was in this moth where all arrangements for “Kulang” and “Gwapitos” was completed and a newer song on the way.

March 2007 - The band will go through a two month hiatus as vacation is nigh. By May, the band will return and finish some of the prospective songs that have already been arranged. Edward leaves the band for America and so there is only one guitarist now. Mannequin hopes to arrange the songs in time for other future presentations.

June 2007 - Upon the start of the new semester, the band attempts to nail down 3 more compositions, namely “Ung Akin“, “Echos“, and “Freshyear“. The band completes “Freshyear” in time for preparations for the Freshmania even in DLSU. The band also covers The Alma Mater Song by giving it a more patriotic setting as per request for the Freshmania. Guitarist Mark comes up with some new material and the band is currently working into it.

July 2007 - The band is set to perform on the 4th of July for the Freshmania in welcoming of the new student year for the freshmen.
