Was Jesus a god or a demigod?

As far as I can tell, Christians believe that Jesus was God in the flesh. If that is so, then he can't have inherited any human traits from Mary, or he wouldn't be a full god. So there would have been no need for God to ever have used Mary in the first place, as he obviously could have just created Jesus on his own. But if he was just a demigod, like Hercules and all the other half-human children of the old style gods, then he wouldn't be equal to god, and thus Christians would be violating the First Commandment by worshiping another god. So either he is equal to god, which would mean god did something pointless by having Mary give birth to him in the first place, which indicates it was just a story made up by someone, or he is a demigod, which means he is not really god. Which one is it?
Edit: So far, four basically identical non-answers.

Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later, I guess. You got us! Yup, you debunked the entire Christian faith, in one single question. I guess all the faithful will just pack up their bags and try something else now, thanks to your genius.

Just to educate you a little more though, Christians believe that Jesus is both FULLY God, and FULLY man. Just because Jesus inherits traits from his earthly mother does not mean his deity is compromised. That is a presumptuous conclusion you've made, based on a certain type of philosophy which you already hold to, concerning body and spirit. If you follow the ancient Greek philosophy that spirit is good and matter is bad, then yes, Jesus' divinity would've been diminished by even coming into contact with human flesh, let alone being incarnated in it. However, there is no such philosophy in Judeo-Christian thinking. God created matter, and interacts with His creation and His creatures, throughout history.
