How do i get better at drawing anatomy?
well im drawing anatomy so i can know the muscles better and draw better. then i will form it into my own style or manga style. i need help drawing anatomy. the part i need most help with it the torso. i can't seem to draw the 6 pack and stuff it just look messed up. i have the anatomy book Drawing the Head and Figure by Jack Hamm. im pretty good with the arm and legs now. i just need the torso, neck, and head. can you guys help? thanks. I know i need to practice what else?
i've got to say that GROWL answered perfectly- Im a fine art major & he literally gave you exactly what you would do in a basic drawing/figure drawing class. Everything from the quick gestures (my teacher would just yell out "flip!" and we had to flip to the next page- which was incredibly difficult at first because in the beginning you tend to try to draw more detailed and with your face more in the newsprint book, rather then quick gestures that just follow the lines of the figure, with your gaze fixed on the model), to how you will hate the first 15 or so (for reasons i described above) but will see your progression. Most important is to NOT take your eyes off the model EVER- do NOT look down at your newsprint, just keep flipping the page. It sounds hard at first, but the purpose of drawing correctly, is drawing from the EYE , not from your HEAD. You need to teach yourself hand-eye coordination- it will get easier. You'll think that you'l be all over the place without looking down, but you'd be surprised how quickly you can truley let your eyes direct your hand in the correct positions on the page, following the contours of the figure. Drawing from a nude model is key. Once you get better at that, then i suggest getting one of those little anatomic models from an art supply store, but only as a reference- you have to have done some nude figure drawing prior.
