Help me pick a sewing machine!!!?
I'm trying to figure out which sewing machine is better. They're both Singer's which can be found at www.singerco.com under products.
First is the 8280 Prelude which I can get for $179, the other is the 1507 which I can get for $164.
I really don't know which one is better. The only useful noted difference I can see is that the 1507 has adjustable pressure, but no automatic tension, whereas the 8280 has the automatic tension, but no adjustable pressure.
HELP!!!
Hi, thanks for your help guys. Does anyone actually have the 1507? I'm thinking that's the way to go right now... But if anyone can tell me if they're fairly reliable, that'd be awesome!
I live in Australia, so the prices I quoted are in AUD (which means they're about half the price of most of the other sewing machines I've seen advertised).
I have a Singer 5050. According to the maintenance shop I take it to for service, it was one of the last "good" Singers made. I've heard awful stuff about Singers and it breaks my heart, because I've used them for over 30 years. Seems the Janome is becoming the choice of many today. It's affordable and dependable. I do a lot of sewing, I would go with the adjustable pressure foot. You might be sewing something very bulky and need the extra adjustment. Tension is easy enough to set, once you get use to your machine.

Singer Confidence 7469Q Sewing Machine Review
The Singer Confidence 7469Q Quilter sewing machine with bonus quilting accessories is a great way for beginners to get into sewing and quilting for a reasonable price. In order to use a sewing machine for quilting, a walking foot and drop feed dog functionality are important and this machine comes with those as well as an added extension table for a larger work space.
Singer Confidence 7469Q Stitch Patterns
The Singer Confidence 7469Q comes with 100 built-in stitch patterns including all the necessary utility stitches, a beautiful selection of decorative stitches and 7 different styles of 1-step buttonhole stitches. There's even an "infinite" bartack buttonhole which means you can make the buttonhole as long as you need to accommodate oversized buttons. This is great for craft projects like carry all bags with flaps and large, decorative button closures. A pull-out reference guide for all patterns is conveniently located at the base of the machine so you don't have to scramble to find the number of the pattern you want.
Stitch width and length are both adjustable up to 7mm depending on the selected stitch.
All of the Singer Confidence machines (except the entry level model) have LED screens with arrow keys below for stitch selection and settings. These are some of the most intuitive control panels on today's machines.
There are also 12 one-step stitch selection buttons for the most used utility and decorative stitches. This makes it even easier than scrolling through the stitch pattern numbers for those frequently accessed stitches - push a button and sew.
Singer Confidence 7469Q Presser Feet
Included with the machine are 8 snap-on presser feet - the five that originally came with this model and 3 bonus presser feet General Purpose, Satin Special Purpose, Buttonhole, Zipper, Blind Hem, Darning and Embroidery, 1/4 Inch presser foot, and an Even Feed (Walking) foot.
Presser foot height is adjustable to 3 settings: down, up and extra-up for thick fabrics and multiple layers.
Singer Confidence 7469Q Features
There are lots of nice automated features on this machine such as an automatic needle threader, automatic and adjustable thread tension, programmable up/down needle position, thirteen needle position settings, automatic bobbin winder, optimum power control for smooth fabric flow even through thick layers, and a self-lubricating mechanism so you don't need to oil the machine yourself.
The feed dogs can be lowered for quilting, darning and free motion embroidery. The Singer Confidence 7469Q is also capable of performing twin needle sewing for parallel stitches.
Horizontal top thread delivery keeps thread moving easily to help prevent bunching. A reverse button is conveniently located just above and to the right of the needle and can also be used to do a locking stitch.
The machine has two LED lights over the workspace, a built in carry handle, and can be mounted to a sewing cabinet or table.
Another bonus that comes with the quilting package is an oversized extension table. This keeps larger projects in line with the sewing surface. The extension table holds the additional accessories and can be removed for free-arm sewing.
The line includes a lot of automation when needed and still maintains the ability to fine-tune settings as your skills progress. Beginners can find some of today's machine controls a bit intimidating but the control panel on the Singer Confidence 7469Q is easy to learn and understand.
