Betta breeding and bubble nests?
i have my male betta in a 10 gallon tank with the water at 78F. i introduced the female with her in a hurricane lantern so they could not get to one another. once the make had filled the 1/2 Styrofoam cup with bubbles i let her go all the male did was keep here away from the nest and they never mated. what happened?

the building of bubble nest is an indication that male is ready to breed.you placing the female in the lamp gave the male the chance to flare at her and this also enticed the male in breeding mood.the chasing is normal(female usually gets battered),give them time,or the male might be ready but the female is not(maybe why the male chase her)..observe them for a while and provide cover for the female so that she won't be battered too badly.if still they don't breed after a day,remove the female.she is not ready yet.you can place her where she can see the female(to entice her also to breed)
